Grand Teton National Park

A separated pathway from Jackson to Jenny Lake, right under the Teton peaks.

5/5
Destination ride

A paved pathway runs from Jackson to Jenny Lake under the Tetons, and the Teton Park Road is car-free each spring.

Riding here

Grand Teton has some of the best family riding in the national parks. The Grand Teton Pathway runs from the town of Jackson north into the park and on beside the Teton Park Road to Jenny Lake, separated from traffic with the peaks filling the view. In spring, before the Teton Park Road opens to cars, riders get it to themselves. Gravel roads like Antelope Flats and the Bridger-Teton National Forest's trails add more.

Where you can ride

Bikes may use the Grand Teton Pathway and park roads open to vehicles. When posted, the Teton Park Road section closed to cars in spring is open to bikes.

Where you can't

No riding on hiking trails, in the backcountry, or on roads closed to vehicles unless posted otherwise. For mountain biking, head to Bridger-Teton National Forest.

Car-free riding

Teton Park Road between Taggart Lake Trailhead and Signal Mountain is closed to vehicles November 1 to May 1; bikes can usually use it from about April 1 once it's clear.

When to go

The pathway opens seasonally once snow melts and crews sweep it. The Jackson–Gros Ventre Road section is closed November 1 to April 30 for elk migration. April brings the car-free Teton Park Road.

Safety

Wear a helmet, ride single file, and use front and rear lights in low light; the pathway is closed dusk to dawn. Stay 25 yards from bison, elk and moose and 100 yards from bears and wolves. Never leave food unattended, even in panniers. Bring two liters of water.

E-bikes

E-bikes count as bicycles if they have fully working pedals and a motor under 750 watts. Some can exceed park speed limits with the motor engaged, so keep it in check.

Fees

Arriving by bike, you pay the park's individual (per-person) entrance fee, normally valid for 7 days, or ride in on an annual or America the Beautiful pass. Amounts change, so check the park's Fees & Passes page. Biking into the park requires a fee. From 2026, non-US residents aged 16 and over pay an extra $100 per person at this park unless covered by a pass (the non-resident America the Beautiful pass is $250).
