Riding here
Lassen's 30-mile park highway climbs to 8,500 feet past steaming fumaroles and Lassen Peak. Each spring, as crews clear the snow section by section, the road opens to walkers, runners and cyclists before cars, which gives riders a car-free climb between walls of snow. Once it opens, it's a classic but busy mountain road.
Where you can ride
Bikes may ride Highway 89 (the Lassen Volcanic Park Highway) and other park roads, including cleared sections during Hike & Bike the Highway.
Where you can't

Car-free riding
Hike & Bike the Highway: during spring clearing, sections of Highway 89 open to walkers, runners and cyclists before vehicles. The park can't predict when sections open, and closures can return after storms; check Alerts and Current Conditions.
When to go
Hike & Bike the Highway usually runs in spring (clearing starts March or April). The road normally opens fully to cars in early summer.
Safety
Helmets strongly encouraged. Watch for rockfall, ice, and clearing equipment. Cell service is unreliable. Bring layers and sun protection.
E-bikes
The park's own bicycling page doesn't spell out e-bike rules. Under the NPS e-bike rule (36 CFR 4.30), an e-bike with working pedals and a motor under 750 watts is generally allowed where regular bikes are, and riding on the motor alone is barred anywhere cars can't go. Parks can restrict them, so confirm with the park before you bring one.
Fees
Arriving by bike, you pay the park's individual (per-person) entrance fee, normally valid for 7 days, or ride in on an annual or America the Beautiful pass. Amounts change, so check the park's Fees & Passes page.
