Riding here
On the South Rim, a bike is one of the best ways to get between viewpoints. Hermit Road runs seven miles west along the rim to Hermits Rest and is closed to private vehicles most of the year, so you share it only with shuttle buses, and greenway paths link the visitor center to Yaki Point and down to Tusayan. Rentals and guided rides are available next to the visitor center. The North Rim adds a short path and part of the Arizona Trail for mountain bikes.
Where you can ride
About 13 miles of South Rim roads and greenways are open to bikes: Hermit Road, the Hermit Road Greenway, the greenway to the South Kaibab Trailhead and Yaki Point Road, and the Tusayan Greenway. On the North Rim, bikes may use the Bridle Path and the Arizona Trail inside the park.
Where you can't
Bikes are prohibited anywhere not listed as open, below the rim on both rims, and on the rim greenway between the intersection southeast of Mather Point and the Bright Angel Trailhead.

Car-free riding
Hermit Road is closed to private vehicles most of the year (shuttle and tour buses still use it), and Yaki Point Road is mostly closed to private vehicles too, so both are low-traffic rides.
Shuttles and bikes
Shuttle buses have front racks; you load and unload your own bike. Useful for one-way rides, for example back to the visitor center from Yaki Point or Hermits Rest.
When to go
The South Rim sits around 7,000 feet: spring and fall are ideal, summer is warm with afternoon storms, and winter brings snow. The North Rim (about 8,000 feet) is a summer-only destination.
Closures and restrictions
The North Rim's historic lodge was destroyed by the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire and services there have been limited since. Check the park's alerts before planning any North Rim ride.
Safety
Helmets are required. Ride single file with traffic (there are no bike lanes), yield to pedestrians, and pull right and dismount for buses on Hermit and Yaki Point roads. Carry water and snacks; you're at about 7,000 feet.
E-bikes
E-bike motors must be under 750 watts. Class 1 and 3 e-bikes may go where regular bikes go; throttle (Class 2) e-bikes are limited to roads open to motor vehicles.
Fees
Arriving by bike, you pay the park's individual (per-person) entrance fee, normally valid for 7 days, or ride in on an annual or America the Beautiful pass. Amounts change, so check the park's Fees & Passes page. From 2026, non-US residents aged 16 and over pay an extra $100 per person at this park unless covered by a pass (the non-resident America the Beautiful pass is $250).
